In this brief case study, we unveil a bit of the icon design process and invite you to glance at the elegant icon set we designed for the tech product.
This graphic design was a part of the design project in which we dealt with a product that allows website visitors to scan IDs quickly and safely to improve customer experience. One of the essential tasks influencing user experience was creating a consistent set of icons that would enhance visual communication and interaction with a product. This part of the project was accomplished by tubik designer Arthur Avakyan, and project management was done by Kate Baikova.
In the creative process, we’ve gone through several iterations to develop the final style, so let’s uncover more about the different options offered to the client and see more of the process. First, the design went through the ideation stage, which resulted in a set of sketches that offered general stylistic approaches to consider. The designer thought about the balance of filled and lined elements and the visual metaphors that would be easy to decode and helpful for users.
In the next stage, the development of style options took place. Three style options were offered: gradient icons, two-tone icons, and simple line icons. Below, you can explore and compare the differences between the approaches.
Having thought over all the options, the client chose the neat and sophisticated simple line icons as a desired graphic design direction.
The next stage included polishing and updating the concept, and here, the version without shadows was tried and agreed upon as more efficient for the product communication goals. Also, the direct front-view orientation of the icons was chosen.
After that, the designer applied the approach to the whole set of icons needed for the user experience of the ID scanning process.
